Segway Xafari vs Aventon Aventure 3: $1,499 vs $1,999

Two fat-tire e-bikes, $500 apart. One goes much further, the other climbs and carries more.

Both are Class 3 fat-tire bikes built for mixed surfaces. The Segway is cheaper and claims substantially more range. The Aventon has more peak power, a torque sensor and a higher payload. Which one wins depends on whether you would rather ride further or climb and carry more. Specs are from both brands’ own product pages.

Range is the headline

88 miles claimed against 65, on a 936Wh battery versus 733Wh. That is a real gap and it is backed by an actual difference in battery size, not just an optimistic test. If you ride long or hate charging, the Segway is the answer.

Power goes the other way

Aventon quotes 1,440W peak in Boost mode for the Aventure 3, with 80 N·m of torque and a torque sensor. Segway quotes 750W for the Xafari. The Aventure 3 also carries 400 lb to the Xafari's 352. On steep climbs or with a loaded rack, that matters. The Aventon is also 16 lb lighter at 76 lb against 92, which you feel lifting it onto a rack or pushing it when the battery dies.

Where to buy and get it serviced

Aventon sells through bike shops as well as direct, and Segway’s store now points you to Segway e-bike shops for test rides too. Check which brand has a shop near you before you buy. On a 92 lb fat-tire bike, having a shop assemble it properly is worth a lot.

Brand backing

Segway is a large company with real support infrastructure, which is worth something in a category full of brands that disappear. Aventon is smaller but specializes in e-bikes and has a longer-running dealer network. Both are safer bets than most of what you will find at these prices.

THE VERDICTTake the Xafari if range is what you care about: 88 claimed miles for $1,499 is not matched anywhere else here, and it is $500 cheaper. Take the Aventure 3 if you climb hills or carry weight. Neither is a mistake.
