Lectric XPedition 2.0 vs Aventon Abound LR

If you are hauling kids, groceries, or delivery bags, these are the two that come up. The Lectric carries slightly more for $600 less. The Aventon has a feature set the Lectric does not, and whether that is worth $600 depends entirely on where you park.

Payload is basically a tie

450 lb against 440 lb. Both will carry a passenger and a week of groceries. If capacity is the only thing you care about, the decision is made and it is the cheaper one.

Speed and weight go opposite ways

The XPedition does 28 mph, the Abound LR does 20. The XPedition is also 14 pounds lighter, 74 lb against 88. On a loaded cargo bike both of those matter more than they sound, especially getting up to speed at an intersection.

What the Aventon actually sells

GPS tracking, geofencing, remote disable, and a motion alarm. A cargo bike is a $2,000 object that lives outside a grocery store, a school, or an apartment rack. If you lock it in public regularly, that feature set is the product, not a bonus. If it lives in a garage, you are paying $600 for something you will never use.

Where you buy them

Lectric sells direct only. Aventon sells direct and through dealers, so you can test ride one and have a shop assemble it. On an 88-pound bike, professional assembly is worth more than it is on a normal e-bike.
